WELCOME TO CLASS 707!

Dear Students and Families,

My name is Miss Zachowski and I will be your ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher this year. Ms. Martinez will be joining the class again as the classroom paraprofessional.  First, we want to welcome everyone to Class 707.  We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing summer, and are as excited as we are to be entering the 2013 – 2014 school year. The key to academic success is constant communication between school and home, so we are looking forward to working together as a team to ensure that the 7th grade is a positive experience.

This year, we will be focusing on becoming lifelong learners, and preparing for college and careers. As far off as that may seem, it is just around the corner! We will study fiction and nonfiction texts, as well as composing a variety of written work. We will use Word Generation across the curriculums to help build our vocabulary. In math, we will explore geometry, ratios, and integers, with a major focus on building number sense. Social Studies will be spent learning about early American history, and the founding of the United States of America and its government. Our time in Science will be spent exploring physical and life science, through literature and hands on lab activities.

This year, students will receive an orange homework folder. This folder is the key source of communication between school and home. Each night, you will find the homework for the evening on the right side of the folder. Any documents which are to be kept at home will be on the left side of the folder.  Please make sure to check this folder EVERY DAY. All important documents and homework assignments will be kept in it. Ms. Martinez and I will check this folder each morning, and help students fill it each afternoon. Additionally, Jupiter Grades will be updated daily with new assignments. You can also follow our class blog at: http://class707.blogspot.com for all important classroom news and homework assignments.

In order to have a successful school year, it is absolutely imperative that we work as a team. The expectations for our students are very high; as we are prepared to come to school every day and work our hardest, we hold the same expectations for our students. Each day will be spent exploring and learning. In order to ensure this, we hope that our students will be responsible, cooperative, and come in each day ready to learn and work hard. We ask for nothing but the best from our students, and in turn, are ready to give our best each day.

Please review the additional information attached. This will help you to better understand the inner workings of our classroom, and the expectations for the 7th grade. If you have any questions or concerns, please note them in your child’s homework folder, and we will respond promptly. Open communication is encouraged; the best way to reach me is through email at LZachowski@schools.nyc.gov. Additionally, please fill out all information cards, so that I am able to contact you as well.

Thank you in advanced for your continued support and cooperation. We look forward to an amazing and productive school year!

Sincerely,

Miss Zachowski and Ms. Martinez
